Considerable Increase of EGL Group's Profit

In the financial year 2006/07 EGL continued to expand its strategic businesses, whereas also boosting its earnings 82% to CHF 449.4 million. While EBIT saw only a slight increase, the group’s profit was positively impacted, among other things, by extraordinary factors such as the sale of its investment in energy supplier Electricité de Strasbourg. EGL is planning major investments in strategic projects in the new financial year.

EGL to enter LNG business, start trading gas in Spain

Swiss-based EGL AG, an energy trading group that has its own power-production assets, will add Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to its business portfolio as LNG deliveries were already contracted by EGL AG on an ex-ship basis. The LNG will be sold in Spain by EGL AG’s wholly-owned subsidiary EGL España to final downstream customers.

EGL sells stake in Electricité de Strasbourg to EDF

EGL and French EDF Group today announced that they have completed the sale of EGL's (13.78%) stake to EDF in Electricité de Strasbourg, the incumbent electricity distributor in the Alsace Department in France. EDF paid EGL EUR 150 Mio. for its stake, corresponding to a price of EUR 153.20 per Electricité de Strasbourg share. EGL's decision to sell its stake in Electricité de Strasbourg is a consequence of its strategic priorities.

Harald von Heyden appointed new member of EGL Executive Management

The EGL Board of Directors has appointed Harald von Heyden as a member of EGL Executive Management. Effective 1 October 2007, Harald von Heyden will become Head of Power Sales & Trading. He succeeds Jacques Piasko who will leave EGL by the end of September 2007. Håkon Røhne, currently Head of Asset Management at EGL Nordic, will become Managing Director of EGL Nordic effective 1 October 2007.

EGL and SUSTEC join forces in Germany

On 18 June 2007, EGL (Dietikon) and SUSTEC Industries AG (Basle) founded the planning company Spreetal AG, with headquarters in Basle. The aim of the company is to develop the Spreetal industrial and chemical park in Saxony.

Hans Schulz appointed new CEO of the EGL Group

The Board of Directors of EGL (Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft Laufenburg AG) has appointed Hans Schulz as the new CEO of the EGL Group. Hans Schulz will take over operational management as of 1 October 2007. He will replace the current CEO Emanuel Höhener who, as already announced, will be stepping down at the end of the 2006/07 financial year.

Important milestones achieved

In the first half of the 2006/07 financial year, EGL achieved additional important milestones in the implementation of its strategy: The first gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Italy went into operation at the end of May, and work on the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has progressed according to plan. The net profit of CHF 176.4 million (+33%) was positively influenced by special factors. EGL expects to close the 2006/07 financial year with profit on a par with the previous year.

Guy Bühler appointed new member of EGL Executive Management

The EGL Board of Directors has appointed Guy Bühler as a member of EGL Executive Management. Effective 1 May 2007, Guy Bühler will become Head of Assets, a newly created division that will include Strategic Asset Management (SAM), Tolling and Business & Project Development.

Natural gas pipeline through Adriatic achieves major milestone

EGL's planned Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which will connect Greece with Italy via Albania - through the Adriatic Sea - has reached an important milestone. The underlying planning work for the natural gas pipeline project has now been completed. Construction is due to commence in 2008, and TAP is scheduled to become operational in 2010. The new pipeline will provide western European countries better access to the significant natural gas reserves in the Caspian region, Russia and the Middle East. The TAP project is supported by the European Union. Negotiations with project partners are progressing well.

Emanuel Höhener is to step down at the end of fiscal year 2006/07

Emanuel Höhener, CEO of the EGL Group, has opted to withdraw from the executive side of business life early and will be stepping down at the end of the current 2006/ 07 financial year. He wishes to prepare the ground in good time to enable him to perform his future professional activities other than those which involve executive responsibility for a company. The process governing his succession has been initiated and the Board of Directors of the EGL Group will provide detailed information at given time.

EGL increases dividend

The 50th ordinary general meeting of the Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft Laufenburg AG (EGL) approved the annual financial statement for the business year 2005/06 (ending 30 September 2006) and decided to pay out an increased dividend of CHF 18 per share (previous year CHF 15).

Claudia Wohlfahrtstätter leaves EGL

Claudia Wohlfahrtstätter, member of Executive Management, will leave EGL as at end of May in order to pursue new professional challenges. She will remain associated with EGL and continue to assume her mandate as Member of the Board of Deriwatt AG.
