Successful trading business and important progress in strategic projects

In the 2007/08 financial year the EGL Group recorded a clear increase in its operating result and achieved important strategic targets. Compared to the previous-year figures adjusted for special factors EBT rose 95% to CHF 415.3 million, while net profit was 110% higher at CHF 315.4 million. Milestones achieved in the implementation of the company's strategic projects included the commissioning of its second gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Rizziconi, Italy, the foundation of a partnership for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, and the signing of a long-term natural gas delivery contract with the National Iranian Gas Export Company.
Markus Brokhof joins EGL Executive Management

The EGL Board of Directors has officially appointed Markus Brokhof as a Member of EGL Executive Management and Head of the Gas Supply & SEE division. Markus Brokhof has been serving in both functions ad interim since June 2008.

Rizziconi Energia power plant operational

After a construction time of 27 months EGL Group's second gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Italy, Rizziconi Energia, is operational now. The plant situated in the province of Calabria has a capacity of 760 MW and is fully-owned by EGL.
Results impacted by high trading profit

EGL recorded a successful trading result and achieved important strategic objectives in the first half-year 2007/08: it entered into a partnership in connection with the Trans Adriatic Pipeline and signed a natural-gas supply contract with the National Iranian Gas Export Company. EGL's second gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Italy is scheduled to go into operation in Rizziconi around mid-June. EBT is 43% higher than the previous-year figure adjusted for positive special factors.

Norway’s StatoilHydro ASA and Swiss-based EGL Group concluded the final agreements leading to the establishment of their equally-owned joint venture company that will develop, build and own the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). The pipeline will carry natural gas from the Caspian Sea and Middle East regions into Europe.
EGL Seals Final Gas Purchase Agreement with NIGEC
