The TAP natural gas pipeline

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project represents a cornerstone in EGL Group's strategy in the natural gas market.

The construction of the new 513 km long natural gas pipeline, 117 km of which are planned to be off-shore, will enable 10 billion cubic metres of natural gas to be transported annually, opening up a fourth corridor of supply for Europe in addition to those from the North Sea, Russia and North Africa.

The basic engineering for the pipeline, which will transport natural gas via Greece and Albania across the Adriatic Sea to Puglia in Italy, has already been completed.

The TAP project is acknowledged as a priority project in the Trans European Energy Networks (TEN-E) programme, and is therefore supported by the European Union. The pipeline will play an important role in guaranteeing access from Western Europe to the natural gas reserves in the Caspian Sea region and the Middle East.

Norway's Statoil is an equal joint-venture partner with EGL in this project, while German EON Ruhrgas participates in minority.
