EGL Italia S.p.A., a subsidiary of the Swiss Group EGL Group (link to headquarter website), is one of the main players on the Italian energy market. The company was founded in 2000 in conjunction with the electricity market liberalisation; today EGL Italia’s activities include trading and sale of electricity, natural gas, certificates, (Green Certificates, RECS, efficiency shares) and emissions trading.
The Italian market is one of the most important for the EGL Group, which today has its own subsidiaries in numerous European countries and is active throughout the entire energy supply chain. In Italy, where the Group is present in Genoa, Rome and Milan, it has developed an industrial plan to handle its production capacity. Today a capacity of 1800 MW is available from gas-fired combined-cycle power plants and a 66 MW wind farm is under construction. An additional capacity of 230 MW from renewable sources is managed through long-term procurement contracts.
EGL is part of the Group Axpo, one of the largest electricity producers and distributors in Switzerland.
