EGL made good progress at all levels during the year under review, which saw expansion of the company's strategic business areas and a 119% increase in net profit to CHF 247.0 mil-lion in a highly volatile market environment. Further major investments in strategic projects are scheduled for the coming business year, with a corresponding impact on costs. The Board of Directors will propose to the Annual General Meeting an increased dividend by CHF 3 to CHF 18 per share (previous year CHF 15).

EGL expands trading activities in Spain and Portugal

Deriwatt becomes a member of the Iberian energy exchange OMIPDeriwatt AG, the energy derivatives arm of EGL, is to become a member of the Iberian energy exchange OMIP (Operador do Mercado Ibérico de Energia Portugês) in Lisbon. This move will further expand EGL's trading activities in Spain and Portugal.

Deriwatt – EGL's energy derivatives arm – has become a member of the ICE Futures energy exchange in London. This move enhances EGL's trading activites in oil, natural gas and emission allowances.
Earnings well above expectations

As already announced at the end of April, the net profit for the half year exceeded expectations by a sizeable margin, increasing energy sales by 32% to 39.3 TWh and net sales by 58% to CHF 3,019.7 million. A strong trading result coupled with a positive one-off effect boosted earnings by 137% to CHF 132.9 million.
EGL starts construction of new gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Italy

The EGL group is making good progress in building up its own production capacity in Italy. These days, it has started construction of the gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Rizziconi (Reggio Calabria). This IPP (independent power producer) project is managed by EGL through the subsidiary Rizziconi Energia S.p.A and will have 760 MW of installed power.
EGL to strengthen natural gas trading in traded markets

As EGL expands it’s presence across Europe, it’s operations are increasingly influenced by natural gas, coal, emissions and oil price movements. In order to continue it’s successful power operations in national and regional wholesale markets all the factors influencing it’s production costs need to be actively addressed.
Andreas Rudolf appointed new CFO of EGL

Effective 1 August 2006, Andreas Rudolf will take over the position of Chief Financial Officer of EGL and become a member of Executive Management. Peter Frauenfelder, an independent management consultant who already works for EGL, will take up the position of interim CFO.

The 49th ordinary general meeting of the Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft Laufenburg AG (EGL) approved the annual financial statement for the business year 2004/05 (ending 30 September 2005) and decided to pay out a dividend of CHF 15.00 per share.
