EGL and Direct Energie enter into partnership

EGL and Direct Energie, the largest, independent power provider in France, have entered into a strategic partnership. Purpose of the cooperation is joint candidacy in the bidding rounds for hydropower utilisation concessions in France.

In April 2010, the responsible ministry in France announced that numerous hydropower concessions would be up for renewal. All total, these concessions represent a production capacity of around 5,000 MW located in various valleys throughout the country.

EGL and Direct Energie intend to bid jointly for these concessions. Their partnership combines Axpo’s many years of experience in the production and use of hydropower through its subsidiary, EGL, and the proven competence in marketing hydropower through Energie Direct. In turn, this puts EGL and Energie Direct in an optimal position to bid for hydropower concessions in France.
